“We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with City of Hope, an organization that brings lifesaving treatments and greater hope to patients with cancer,” said Luc Robitaille, president of business operations for the L.A. Kings. “The collaboration between the L.A. Kings and City of Hope will help us expand awareness among hockey fans and the hockey community throughout Los Angeles and bring us one step closer to finding a cure for cancer.”
Celebrities will launch the month-long effort on Jan. 2, 2010, when they lace up their hockey skates in “Face Off for Hope,” a special exhibition after the Kings play the Washington Capitals.
In STAPLES Center, the Kings Community Corner section will be renamed the “Section of Hope” for the month. Individual premier-level tickets cost $100 and 300-level tickets cost $30 during Month of Hope. Eight-game ticket packages for premier-level seats cost $700 and 300-level packages cost $220.
City of Hope will receive a donation from every ticket sold. Fifty percent of the cost of premier-level tickets (both individual tickets and eight-game packages) will be donated, while 33 percent of the cost of individual 300-level tickets will be donated. City of Hope will receive 46 percent of the cost of eight-game 300-level ticket packages.
In addition to the L.A. Kings donating a portion of proceeds from tickets sales during January to City of Hope, Ticketmaster also will donate the ticketing fees from the sale of tickets for Face Off for Hope.
The team also will offer limited-edition L.A. Kings Month of Hope merchandise that will benefit City of Hope at its Kings Care booth. At each game, the L.A. Kings will honor “Heroes for Hope,” City of Hope doctors or patients who exemplify outstanding commitment to their work or treatment.
The L.A. Kings have a long history of holding individual fundraising events to benefit City of Hope. Now the team is dedicating its energy to City of Hope’s Music and Entertainment Industry’s Spirit of Life® effort, which this year recognizes the philanthropy and career achievements of Tim Leiweke, president and chief executive officer of AEG. AEG is one of the world’s leading sports and entertainment presenters and owns both the STAPLES Center and the L.A. Kings.
