Counting — and rewarding — every drop

The Blood Donor Center recently launched the third year of its popular employee loyalty program — a year-long drive in which employees can earn prizes and vouchers good for time off just for donating blood or platelets.

The center culminated its 2008 program with a luncheon and celebration on Feb. 2 recognizing previous employee blood donors. The 2009 “Giving Hope Every Way I Can” program continues through Jan. 31, 2010.

In the program, employees can earn up to eight “loyalty hours” for time off by donating five times during the program year. The program also offers other loyalty gifts.

Donors are entered into monthly and end-of-year raffles every time they donate.

“More information on incentives will be available in the coming weeks,” said Gay Almquist, director of the Donor Apheresis Center.

Jill Schwarz, recruitment manager at the Donor Center, noted that City of Hope constantly needs blood products, so regular donors make a difference. “There’s no better place to tap into for these dependable donations than the employees who come to campus every day,” she said.

“We had considerable success with the program last year, and hope that this year we will do even better,” Schwarz added. The center aims to have 10 percent of City of Hope employees participate and to obtain 1,000 units of whole blood and platelets through the program.
