NASCAR stars Tony Stewart and Greg Biffle have joined City of Hope’s fight against cancer through their respective corporate sponsors, Office Depot and 3M.
The Office Depot Foundation and 3M each created online matching-donation efforts in which the companies will match every donation dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000 to benefit City of Hope — and both NASCAR drivers have recorded video segments supporting the cause.

3M and Office Depot are both longtime supporters of City of Hope through numerous initiatives to benefit cancer research, treatment and education programs. The Office Depot Matching Gift Program has raised nearly $2.4 million since it began in 2006. The 3M Matching Gift Program has raised nearly $500,000 and more than $1.2 million since 2004 through product promotions and sponsorships.
“Stewart-Haas Racing [SHR] was touched by cancer when we unfortunately lost a member of the SHR family last year,” said Stewart, who took on the dual role of driver and team owner at Stewart-Haas Racing in 2009. He is a two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion and driver of the No. 14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet car.
Biffle, driver of the No. 16 3M Ford, is lending his support for the second year. “My goal is to raise greater awareness and support within the racing community about the importance of lifesaving cancer research being done at City of Hope,” he said.
The program came about through the commitment of Bill Smith, vice president and general manager at 3M, and Chuck Rubin, president of North American retail at Office Depot.
Office Depot’s drive runs through April 11, and 3M’s program takes place June 28 through Aug. 30.
