Poetry workshop slated for patients and caregivers

City of Hope patients and their caregivers are invited to an upcoming writing workshop aimed at healing mind, body, spirit and community.

“Finding the Words To Say It: The Healing Power of Poetry” will encourage participants to express their feelings and experiences through words. Robert Carroll, M.D., a Los Angeles family psychiatrist who teaches at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, will lead the class. Carroll is former vice president of the National Association for Poetry Therapy.

The poetry class is scheduled to run from 3 to 5 p.m. on June 17 at City of Hope’s Sheri & Les Biller Patient and Family Resource Center. The Biller Patient and Family Resource Center and Department of Supportive Care Medicine sponsor the session.

While the class is free, it is limited to the first 15 registrants, so reservations are required. Light refreshments will be served. To R.S.V.P., call 626-256-4673, ext. 32273 (3CARE).
