For many women, the demands of motherhood can make their own health an afterthought. A new online initiative aims to move these issues up on moms’ to-do list.
The award-winning parenting website Disney Family.com teamed up with City of Hope to encourage mothers to take good care of their health. Disney Family.com created a new Web resource called “Simple Steps to Healthy Families: Mom’s Health” in celebration of National Women’s Health Week, May 9 to May 15. City of Hope joined in to provide expert advice about cancer screening and prevention.
“We’re very excited about this partnership,” said Steve Martin, associate vice president for marketing at City of Hope. “Reaching out to Disney Family.com’s monthly audience of more than a million visitors is a real boost to our outreach programs. It’s also a perfect chance to build awareness and support for City of Hope’s efforts to cure and prevent women’s cancers.”
Through this ongoing partnership, a dedicated section of Disney Family.com features exclusive City of Hope content. Articles cover consumer-friendly topics such as reducing cancer risk, separating cancer facts from myths, and talking to physicians about cancer.
In addition, an issue of the site’s weekly e-newsletter spotlighted City of Hope. A national radio tour featuring Joanne Mortimer, M.D., vice chair and professor in the Department of Medical Oncology & Therapeutics Research and head of the Women’s Cancers Program, helped publicize the partnership.
