The Sheri & Les Biller Patient and Family Resource Center has launched a month-long series of educational, supportive and social events for caregivers.
Held the first four Monday afternoons of November, the “Caring for Yourself While Caring for a Patient” sessions offer giveaways and touch on a variety of resources and activities to bring together those who are supporting patients in treatment at City of Hope. A “Caregivers Café,” a time to relax, chat with other caregivers and share refreshments, follows each session.
The program consists of these sessions:
- Nov. 1 – Expressing Yourself through Healing Arts (learning how to use the creative process of art to relieve stress and encourage optimism)
- Nov. 8 – An Intro to Music Therapy: Using Music as a Tool in Wellness (nourishing the mind, body and soul through the healing power of music)
- Nov. 15 – Tips and Tools for Caregivers (practical advice for caregivers on how to take care of their loved ones and themselves)
- Nov. 22 – Caregiving During the Holidays (addressing the unique needs of patients, caregivers and family members during the holiday season; Chaplain Terry Irish, D.Min., also will address spiritual needs)
Sessions will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the fifth floor lobby of City of Hope Helford Clinical Research Hospital. No registration is necessary. For more information, call 626-256-4673, ext. 3-CARE (32273).
