Get ready to honor an administrative staff member

By Alicia Di Rado

Administrative professionals often work behind the scenes, keeping projects running with creativity and a knack for organization. Now the best of these staff members at City of Hope will see their efforts publicly recognized.

Nominations open until March 30 for the awards program, cosponsored by the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) and City of Hope. This year’s program, themed “Power of Commitment,” honors outstanding administrative professionals who support City of Hope’s mission and values.

The selected staff member will be named Administrative Professional of the Year, which includes a trophy, monetary prize and dedicated parking spot for a year. Two runners up also will receive monetary prizes, and all nominees will be recognized publicly.

Anyone at City of Hope may submit an online form nominating an administrative professional by visiting the IAAP page on the employee intranet, available at www.coh.org/iaap.

“We’re hoping to make the recognition program even bigger and better in its second year,” said Amy Stillings-Farris, IAAP president. “City of Hope has continued its partnership with us to make this event happen.”

Anyone who submits a form may choose to have the award candidate notified of the nomination. The candidate may opt to participate in the program and even submit support materials, such as comments from others, to support their nomination.

Judges from the medical center, Beckman Research Institute and development and external affairs areas will determine the administrative professional of the year based on demonstrated achievements in City of Hope competencies and values, such as the ability to communicate clearly and constructively and contributions to patient care and research.

The administrative professional of the year will be honored at the IAAP annual luncheon on April 20. Staff at the medical center and downtown Los Angeles locations are eligible.
