Year of the Rabbit

Jonathan Lam, statistical programmer in the Department of Populations Sciences, right, answered questions about City of Hope at the 20th annual San Gabriel Valley Lunar New Year Festival on Feb. 5 in Alhambra, Calif.

Thousands gathered and greeted one another with “xīn nián kuài lè,” “gung hay fat choy” and other well wishes during the festival, which ushered in the Lunar New Year. The event featured food, music, martial arts demonstrations and traditional dances celebrating the arrival of the Year of the Rabbit. Local businesses and health-care agencies, including City of Hope, also sponsored exhibit booths.

Lam and Sophia Yeung, assistant project coordinator for the Center of Community Alliance for Research & Education, represented City of Hope and invited festival attendees to participate in a survey to assess cancer awareness in the local Chinese community.  (Photo by Bing Yeh)
