LA Opera soprano Janai Brugger-Orman performed “Summertime” from the classic Gershwin opera, ”Porgy and Bess,” for more than 370 faculty and staff members, patients and community members at a May 5 recital in City of Hope’s Cooper Auditorium.

Brugger-Orman and six other artists, along with their head coach and accompanist, Nino Sanikidze, delivered the free performance as one of many described as “thank you gifts” to the Greater Los Angeles community in celebration of the LA Opera’s 25th anniversary.

The celebratory recitals feature artists from LA Opera’s Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program. Opera legend Placido Domingo oversees the residency program, which supports and trains singers and pianists deemed exceptionally talented and who are transitioning from academic training to a professional career in opera.
