City of Hope’s medical expertise expands with growing physician ranks

City of Hope recently welcomed more than a dozen new members to its medical staff roster. Together, they bring medical expertise in a wide range of fields including anesthesiology, diabetes, diagnostic radiology, medical specialties, medical oncology, surgical oncology and supportive care medicine.

The physicians are all part of the new City of Hope Medical Group.

“City of Hope takes great pride in its ability to recruit and expand its top-notch team of experts,” said Alexandra Levine, M.D., M.A.C.P., chief medical officer. “The addition of these talented physicians allows City of Hope to continue its mission of providing high-quality and compassionate cancer care services to each patient who walks through our doors.”

In addition to recent appointments of Joseph Rosenthal, M.D., as Barron Hilton Chair in Pediatrics and William Boswell, M.D., as chair of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, new medical staff members include:

    Steven Chen, M.D., M.B.A., associate clinical professor of surgery in the Division of General Oncologic Surgery, specializes in breast surgery and outcomes research. Chen joined City of Hope from the University of California, Davis, where he was director of breast surgery.
  • Gary Hum, M.D., associate clinical professor of anesthesiology, brings subspecialty training in critical care anesthesia.
  • Natalie Kelly, Ph.D., assistant clinical professor in the Department of Supportive Care Medicine, is a clinical neuropsychologist with expertise in counseling pediatric patients and providing consultations for their physicians. Kelly recently completed her training at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
  • Azar Khosravi, M.D., assistant professor of diabetes, metabolism and endocrinology, holds research interests in disorders of bone and bone metabolism in patients with malignant disease. Khosravi was most recently at the National Institutes of Health.
  • Jae Y. Kim, M.D., assistant professor of surgery, specializes in thoracic surgery. Kim joins City of Hope from MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
  • Joe Paredes, M.D., is an associate clinical professor in the Department of Anesthesiology.
  • Jinha Mark Park, M.D., Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology whose research interests include immune targeting of tumors through radiologic techniques. His clinical expertise is in body imaging. Park most recently worked at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC).
  • Julian Sanchez, M.D., assistant clinical professor of surgery in the Division of General Oncologic Surgery, specializes in colorectal surgery. Sanchez was previously at the Cleveland Clinic.
  • Eduardo Siccion, M.D., assistant clinical professor of medical oncology, recently completed his fellowship in hematology/oncology at University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He will work on City of Hope’s medical oncology inpatient service.
  • Kenneth Son, M.D., M.P.H., is an associate clinical professor of anesthesiology who joined City of Hope from the Keck School of Medicine of USC after completing his residency training at the National Naval Medical Center. He has spent time in Iraq, where he learned and became skilled in acupuncture.
  • Tomoko Tagawa, M.D., assistant clinical professor of medical oncology, specializes in women’s cancers, including breast cancer. Tagawa recently completed her fellowship through the City of Hope/Harbor-UCLA Medical Center hematology/oncology program’s research track.
  • Ted Uchio, M.D., associate clinical professor of anesthesiology, is trained in both internal medicine and anesthesiology.
  • Ko Yamada, M.D., assistant clinical professor in the Department of Medical Specialties, is a cardiologist who most recently worked at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
  • Jonathan Yamzon, M.D., assistant clinical professor of surgery in the Division of Urology and Urologic Oncology, completed his fellowship in urologic oncology at City of Hope.
  • Bertram Yuh, M.D, M.I.S.M., M.S., assistant clinical professor of surgery in the Division of Urology and Urologic Oncology, completed his fellowship in urologic oncology at City of Hope. He also received a Master of Information Systems Management degree and a Master of Science degree in health-care policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University.
