Three members of the recently formed City of Hope Medical Group have taken posts on the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope and City of Hope National Medical Center boards of directors.
It is the first time the medical group has nominated City of Hope physicians to the boards of the two organizations.
The medical group board of directors nominated Leslie Popplewell, M.D., clinical associate professor in the Department of Hematology & Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation, and Vincent Chung, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Medical Oncology & Therapeutics Research, to serve on the medical center board and Behnam Badie, M.D., chief of the Division of Neurosurgery, to serve on the Beckman Research Institute board.

City of Hope’s board of directors ratified the nominations on July 27.
The physicians’ respective appointments are part of the integration of the new City of Hope Medical Group into City of Hope’s existing governance structure.

The appointments also mark a major step in the formation of the new City of Hope Medical Foundation, according to Julio Garcia-Aguilar, M.D., Ph.D., chair of the Department of Surgery and president of the medical group’s board of directors.
“The medical group board is counting on the participation of physicians as we work with City of Hope’s administrative, research and clinical leadership to form the foundation,” Garcia-Aguilar said.
