Eager swimmers start their year off with a scream by plunging into 58-degree waters to benefit City of Hope. Seven members of the San Gabriel Valley Polar Bear Club ushered in 2011 by diving into the Pacific Ocean at Venice Beach in Los Angeles on Jan. 1 with no wetsuits. It was the second year for the group’s First Swim event, which raised money for cancer research. For more information, visit www.sgvpolarbears.com. (Photo by Poysophon Poysophon)
