The Home Depot Foundation recently awarded City of Hope more than $535,000 to upgrade facilities in the Hope and Parsons Village main office. The grant supports renovation of electrical and plumbing facilities benefiting patients and their families staying in on-campus housing.

“Hope Village is a haven away from home and a place where patients and their caregivers seek solace and comfort when they are ready to be discharged from the hospital, but not quite ready to go home,” said Alexandra Levine, M.D., M.A.C.P., chief medical officer at City of Hope. “This grant makes it possible to create a special temporary home for our patients and to uphold our commitment to providing the best possible care for patients, their families and friends.”

Hope and Parsons Village comprises 40 units of studio-style housing at the northwest corner of campus, combining the conveniences and comforts of home with accessible care for patients. Loved ones who are caring for patients staying in the village may use the kitchen adjacent to the main office to prepare meals. Bathroom and shower facilities also are available for their use.

The current grant marks the third award in nine years from The Home Depot Foundation to City of Hope and brings the foundation’s total contributions to $3 million. Previous awards supported earlier Hope Village improvements as well as the installation of solar panels on the Michael Amini Transfusion Medicine Center.
