Michael A. Friedman, M.D., president and chief executive officer of City of Hope, right, introduces California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom to the view from the sixth floor lobby in City of Hope Helford Clinical Research Hospital.

Newsom toured campus on Sept. 6 to learn how City of Hope’s translational research model develops new therapies for cancer, HIV/AIDS, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. Newsom heard from clinical and research faculty members about the Center for Biomedicine & Genetics and other City of Hope facilities that aim to move research rapidly and safely into new clinical treatments. (Photo by p.cunningham)
