City of Hope benefactor Morgan Chu, J.D., Ph.D., celebrates with Michael A. Friedman, M.D., president and chief executive officer of City of Hope.

Chu, a partner at the Los Angeles-based law firm of Irella & Manella LLP, joined more than 60 other attendees at an investiture ceremony at Valentino Restaurant in Santa Monica, Calif., on Nov. 14. The event formally recognized Friedman as the Irell & Manella Cancer Center Director’s Distinguished Chair, which was endowed through a $3 million gift from the law firm.

Gifts from the law firm and from Chu and his wife, Helen, also have established the Irell & Manella Graduate School of Biological Sciences, the school’s Morgan and Helen Chu Dean’s Chair and the Morgan and Helen Chu Director’s Chair of Beckman Research Institute. (Photo by AmyCantrell.com)
