Hannah Komai, 21, along with nearly a dozen pediatric patients, was on hand for the dedication of a new ICEE machine in City of Hope’s Le Bistro café in October 2010.

Project Giving Tree and childhood cancer foundation Angel 34 sponsored the installation event for the ICEE machine, which produces frozen fruit-flavored drinks that some patients find helpful in offsetting the side effects of chemotherapy.

To help celebrate the ICEE machine installation, footwear retailer TOMS Shoes donated pairs of shoes for a TOMS Style Your Sole decorating party. Komai and other patients from City of Hope and other hospitals, aided by Project Giving Tree founders and actresses Tara Mercurio and Lacey Chabert, used fabric paints and markers to add their own personal flair to the shoes.
