Lifesaving legislation

California Assemblymember Warren T. Furutani, representing South Los Angeles County, right, greets Jeffrey Wong, M.D., chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology, left, following an introduction by Diego De La Garza, director of State Government and Community Relations.

Furutani attended a luncheon held in his honor at City of Hope’s Visitor Center on Feb. 4, where he received a plaque in recognition of his efforts to improve health care for Californians. The legislator recently authored Assembly Bill 549 on behalf of City of Hope. The bill aimed to improve the state’s licensing process for clinical lab personnel.

Furutani, whose close friend received a bone marrow transplant at City of Hope, said his efforts on behalf of the institution were his “way of giving back to a place that has given so much to people in search of answers.” (Photo by p.cunningham)
