A sound investment
Scientists Richard Jove, Ph.D., and John J. Rossi, Ph.D., were honored with endowed chairs at an investiture ceremony on Nov. 21, 2011.
Michael A. Friedman, M.D., president and chief executive officer, presented a commemorative award to Jove during the ceremony. Jove was recognized as the Morgan and Helen Chu Director’s Chair of Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope. In the lab, Jove is known for research on signal transducer and activator of transcription, or STAT, proteins and their potential as targets for cancer therapies. He has led Beckman Research Institute since 2008.
Above, Friedman congratulates Rossi for being named as the holder of the Morgan and Helen Chu Dean’s Chair at the Irell and Manella Graduate School of Biological Sciences. Rossi, chair of the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, studies the potential use of small bits of genetic material to fight disease, especially HIV. He also holds the Lidow Family Research Chair in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. (Photo by p.cunningham)
