Hematopoietic stem cell transplant patient Linda Schwartzman smiles in gratitude as Melanie Ward gives her a hand-knitted scarf.

Ward was one of six representatives from the Love Scarf Project who visited City of Hope on Valentine’s Day to deliver handmade scarves and caps to transplant patients. Bridget Fonger, friend of a former City of Hope patient, founded the project in 2002 when she noticed some patients received few if any visitors. Crafters knit the scarves to help all patients feel warm and loved. Originally focusing on City of Hope patients, the Love Scarf Project since has expanded to deliver scarves to patients at other hospitals around the United States. More information about the project is available at http://lovescarf.blogspot.com. (Photo by Darrin S. Joy)
