RETREAT FROM CANCER

Cancer Hope Foundation (CHF) is pleased to announce its upcoming Camp Keepsake Weekend Camp, meant for adult women who have experienced a breast cancer diagnosis. Retreats will be held Sept. 28-30 and Oct. 5-7. Free of charge to adult cancer patients/survivors and up to five guests, the camp will again be held at a beautiful location within Malibu Canyon in Calabasas.

A place to laugh, cry and embrace life together, Camp Keepsake provides a wonderful opportunity for people affected by cancer to take a break away from their typical daily stresses to enjoy fun camp activities as well as to relax and enjoy various spa type amenities.

CHF is now accepting applications for these Camp Keepsake sessions.  For more information, please call 805-384-5445 or visit the website at www.cancerhopefoundation.org, which offers additional information, testimonials from previous campers and downloadable applications.

CANCER SURVIVOR SCHOLARSHIPS

In 2001, Working Against Cancer (WAC) began its mission to assist young cancer patients and survivors in navigating their way through the emotional upheaval that accompanies a cancer diagnosis. The program helps survivors become self-reliant individuals with independent, productive lives.

WAC’s Survival Scholarship Program assists young adult cancer survivors (ages 30 years and under) by providing awards toward academic and vocational education. These scholarships encourage each recipient to engage in a trade, art or another form of higher education and relieve some of the burden of obtaining the funds to reach these goals. Candidates must be cancer survivors or recently diagnosed with cancer, but do not need to be currently receiving treatment to qualify.  Three awards will be granted for the 2007-2008 academic year. The $500 Jackie Maas Memorial Scholarship and the $1000 EJE Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to two exceptional survivors residing in California. The third award for $500 will be allotted to an exceptional cancer survivor applicant residing in the United States.   Applications are now posted on their website and submission deadline is Aug. 17.
