National Doctors Day was created to show appreciation to the men and women who diagnose, treat and care for you and your family. When you are well, your doctor strives to keep you well. When you are sick, there is no other person more important than your doctor.
Every year on the national recognition day known as Doctors Day, City of Hope takes the opportunity to honor and celebrate its physicians. Each day we see them saving lives, making crucial decisions and compassionately helping patients through some of the most difficult, emotional experiences.
Physicians value the gratitude of their patients much more than accolades or awards they could receive. The doctor-patient relationship is as precious to them as it is to you!

Origin of National Doctors Day Doctors Day
Doctors Day observances date back to March 30, 1933. It was started by Eudora Brown Almond of Winder, Ga. The day marks the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery. On March 30, 1958, the United States House of Representatives adopted a resolution commemorating Doctors Day. In 1990, the congress and the senate approved legislation and the first National Doctors Day was celebrated in 1991.
