As the end of the year approaches, many people are looking for additional ways to ease their tax burden. By establishing a gift annuity at City of Hope, you will not only gain a tax deduction and secure income for life — you will support City of Hope’s lifesaving patient care and research programs as well.

Millie Greenman knows firsthand the benefits of a gift annuity. She and her family are longtime supporters of City of Hope, so she was delighted to discover that she could give to City of Hope while also planning for a secure retirement.
“It is second nature for me to help City of Hope,” Millie says. “What a pleasant surprise to learn that City of Hope could help me!”
It all started when Millie chatted over lunch with City of Hope staff member Sherrie Vamos. Sherrie told Millie about the benefits of setting up a charitable gift annuity at City of Hope — guaranteed income for life and immediate tax benefits.
“Sherrie took a genuine interest in me as a person,” Millie says. “She never pushed me to make a decision and she answered all of my questions.”
Millie learned that at her age, an annuity of $25,000 would pay her 8.8 percent every year (a guaranteed income of $2,200), plus a tax deduction of $13,350 in the year it was established.
It sounded great to Millie, but she needed more information to be sure. She checked with her financial advisor to be sure she had enough set aside for emergencies. Once everything was in order, she got back to Sherrie and established a gift annuity.
“I don’t know which part is more exciting,” Millie says. “Receiving a guaranteed income for life, getting a tax deduction, or the fact that my gift will live on at City of Hope to help future patients.”
