“I love City of Hope because...”

Olga Rosas, City of Hoper patient and employee

In 2003 I was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer. “I am going through a journey, I am going to be OK.” A mantra given to me by my daughter to recite over and over, and I did. The research, the doctors, nurses, social workers, the compassion and care given to me here at City of Hope, defined this personal mantra for me. Thank you, City of Hope, for making this mantra come true. Thank you for my life.

I love City of Hope because while we strive every day to take outstanding care of our patients, we also work tirelessly to find the answers to cancer. City of Hope has provided the unique opportunity to find those answers in my own laboratory, while performing major lifesaving surgery on cancer patients.

Institutions, like people, have identities. City of Hope emerged from the dreams, idealism and compassion of millions of donors, patients and caregivers, scattered across the nation spanning almost a century. I feel at home at City of Hope and strive to help preserve its humanitarian mission.

Throughout my 11 years with City of Hope, I have witnessed the growth of our wonderful hospital and how we are benefiting our patients and their journeys toward healing. I have enjoyed my interactions with the employees, patients and their families and how it provides comfort and caring when needed. City of Hope has made me a better person and I am very proud to be a part of it.

I have been an employee at City of Hope in a variety of positions for almost 23 years. Although I have never worked directly in patient care, being part of an organization that demonstrates such compassion and caring is tremendously rewarding.
