DUARTE, Calif., July 7, 2008 — William M. Gorenstein, C.P.A., a financial administrator with extensive experience in the health-care industry, has been appointed vice president of finance for City of Hope, and will oversee the day-to-day supply chain and revenue cycle operations of the institution.
“As an integral member of City of Hope’s management team, William will help ensure the institution’s operating efficiency while preparing us for the next phase of growth,” said Dennis Rusch, chief financial officer and treasurer, City of Hope.
Prior to joining City of Hope, Gorenstein worked at the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) for 14 years in increasing roles of financial responsibility, most recently as associate vice president finance-corporate controller. He was responsible for accounting and financial reporting, financial systems, accounts payable, payroll, and debt and treasury management for UPHS, which is comprised of three acute care teaching hospitals, a clinical practice plan with over 1,300 members of the University of Pennsylvania school of medicine faculty, a 160 member primary care physician practice plan, home care, infusion and hospice services.
Gorenstein’s accomplishments include developing the financial model that supports UPHS’ long-range strategic plan, development of a centralized treasury, leadership in the restructuring of $700 million of UPHS debt that yielded substantial cash savings, and implementation of the financial and planning systems to a more user friendly philosophy. Gorenstein joined the University of Pennsylvania as assistant comptroller in 1988 from the accounting firm of Coopers and Lybrand. In that role he implemented several improvements to financial reporting, including providing leadership to the design and implementation of the financial accounting and reporting system.
Gorenstein is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Gorenstein received his bachelor of business administration, magna cum laude, from Temple University in Pennsylvania.
