LOS ANGELES, November 4, 2008 — More than 850 executives from City of Hope’s Los Angeles Real Estate and Construction Industry (LARE) honored A. Larry Chapman, executive vice president and group head of commercial real estate for Wells Fargo, with The Spirit of Life® Award, City of Hope’s most prestigious philanthropic honor, at a gala dinner October 23. The dinner, along with gifts from industry members and LARE activities during the year, raised $2.5 million for City of Hope, a leading cancer research, treatment and education center.
In addition to more than $1 million in corporate contributions for the Spirit of Life dinner, the campaign includes a $1 million gift from 2007 Spirit of Life honoree and longtime City of Hope supporter Mace Siegel, in honor of Wells Fargo. Other contributions include a gift from Jeff Berger, LARE board member and president of Berger Investment Group; a bequest from the mother of LARE board member Alex Glickman, area vice chairman and managing director-practice leader of Arthur J. Gallagher & Company; and proceeds from LARE’s 2008 Racing for Hope event spearheaded by LARE board member Marc Paul.
“I’m honored to receive this special recognition from City of Hope,” said Chapman. “The real estate industry plays a key role in supporting the lifesaving research and treatment programs of City of Hope. I’m proud to be a part of our ongoing commitment to bring hope to cancer patients everywhere.”
“Behind every great research institution are supporters who tirelessly invest their resources, energy and time,” said Larry Schmidt, LARE president. “All of us are very thankful that the real estate community who, despite the difficult times, dug deep and came out to honor Larry Chapman and support the important lifesaving work being done at City of Hope.”
