DUARTE, Calif., December 15, 2008 — Warren L. Chandler, an accomplished information technology (IT) executive with almost three decades experience implementing large-scale information systems for the health care industry, has been appointed chief information officer for City of Hope. Chandler will direct the development of City of Hope’s IT systems strategy and oversee IT infrastructure and application support.

“Information technology plays a vital role in supporting City of Hope’s mission and goals,” said Virginia Opipare, executive vice president and chief operating officer, City of Hope. “Warren’s management experience, knowledge of the health care industry and technical expertise will provide strong leadership in this critical area and ensure our continued strategic development and growth.”

Prior to City of Hope, Chandler was president of Strattech Group LLC, a Jacksonville, Fla. company that specializes in health care IT management and strategy services. 

Before Strattech Group, he was senior vice president and chief information officer for Baptist St. Vincent's Health System, where he lead the organization through a strategic IT five-year plan to integrate all new clinical and enterprise information systems, and designed and implemented an electronic medical record for the multihospital environment. Chandler also served St. Vincent’s Healthcare as its senior vice president/chief information officer for 10 years.

Chandler also served as senior manager of health care information systems at Ernst & Young, where he directed the development of long-range strategic information system plans for academic and community hospitals. 

Chandler holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and computer science and a Master of Business Administration degree from Tulane University in New Orleans.
