LOS ANGELES, May 11, 2009 — City of Hope has appointed Stanley E. Washington, founder and chief executive officer of Pantheon Lifestyle Services LLC and a former senior executive of American Express, to its national board of directors.
“Stanley Washington’s experience and leadership will greatly benefit City of Hope as we advance our strategic goals of conducting innovative research and improving treatments for people with life-threatening diseases,” said Terry Peets, chairman, City of Hope board of directors.
Washington founded Pantheon Lifestyle Services, a commercial provider of member services to elite consumer brands, in 2007. Previously, he served as regional vice president and general manager of the Western United States for American Express, where he oversaw the company’s U.S. Commercial Card division. He is credited with helping to drive the company’s penetration into key industries including entertainment, fine dining, ski and lodging. He also served as regional vice president and general manager of the American Express Establishment Services Division where he was responsible for more than $50 billion in annual credit charge volume.
Prior to his career at American Express, Washington held executive positions at Time Warner Cable and Dow Jones & Co.
Presently Washington serves as chairman of the National Black Economic Development Coalition and serves on the boards of the Los Angeles Convention & Visitors Bureau (past chairman), the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission (past chairman) and the Magic Johnson Foundation. He has served on the boards of the Los Angeles Metro YMCA, The Bowers Museum of Cultural Art, The Los Angeles National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Museum of African American Art and was chairman of the Los Angeles and San Francisco Philanthropic Councils for American Express. He is also a former advisory board member of the Mayor of Los Angeles Economic Development Council.
