LOS ANGELES, June 3, 2009 — City of Hope has appointed Anthony (Tony) E. Scott, corporate vice president and chief information officer (CIO) of Microsoft Corporation, to its national board of directors. Scott is a highly regarded information technology executive with more than 25 years experience in running global information technology (IT) operations for Fortune 500 corporations.
“We are fortunate to have Mr. Scott’s leadership, vision and tremendous expertise as we continue to advance City of Hope’s mission of turning promising biomedical research into lifesaving therapies for patients everywhere,” said Terry Peets, chair, City of Hope board of directors.
At Microsoft Corporation, Scott is responsible for security, infrastructure, messaging and business applications for all of Microsoft, including support of the product groups, the corporate business groups and the global sales and marketing organization. Prior to joining Microsoft in 2008, Scott held executive positions at prominent companies in the entertainment, automotive, pharmaceutical and computer industries, including The Walt Disney Company, where he was the first CIO to manage companywide IT, General Motors Corporation, Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, Sun Microsystems and Marriott International Inc. He was named “Chief Technology Officer of the Year” by Infoworld Magazine in 2000 and is a co-sponsor of the elite Microsoft Global CIO summit, an annual conference attended by a distinguished group of technology leaders and innovators worldwide.
Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in information systems management from the University of San Francisco and also holds a Juris Doctor with a concentration in intellectual property and international law from Santa Clara University.
