Mild cognitive impairment following chemotherapy is one of the most commonly reported post treatment symptom by cancer survivors. This deterioration in cognitive function, commonly referred to as "chemobrain" or "chemofog," was largely unacknowledged by the medical community until recent years. Although chemobrain has now become the subject of more vigorous exploraation, little is known about this specific phenomenon's psychosocial impact on cancer survivors. COH patients and family members have made inquires of the health care providers at COH for information on "chemobrain". This activity has been designed to provide healthcare providers with information to enable them to better respond to these inquires.
Upon successful of this activity the learner should be better able to:

 

Describe the clinical presentation(s) of chemobrain Articulate the causes of chemobrain Outline coping strategies to chemobrain sequelae to patients and their family Develop clinical treatment and management strategies for chemobrain

 

This activity has been designed to meet the needs of physicians, nurses and allied health care providers who treat patients with cancer. The City of Hope is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. City of Hope designates this enduring material for a maximum of 1AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.Physiciansshould claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The following may apply CME Category 1 credit for license renewal:

 

Registered Nurses:Nurses may report up to 1 credit hours toward the continuing education requirements for license renewal by their state Board of Registered Nurses (BRN). CME may be noted on the license renewal application in lieu of a BRN provider number.

 

Physician’s Assistants:The National Commission on certification of Physicians Assistants states that AMA accredited Category 1 courses are acceptable fro CME requirements for recertification.
