Biography

Dr. Slatkin, a neurologist who is Board certified in Neurology and Psychiatry, also holds Board certifications in Pain Management by the American Board of Pain Medicine and American Board of Medical Specialists (Neurology).

Dr. Slatkin received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and completed his internship at New York University’s Bellevue Medical Center. He has taken residencies in: Rehabilitation Medicine at the Institute for Rehabilitative Medicine (Rusk Institute) at New York University, Neurology at New York University’s Bellevue Medical Center and the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He also completed a fellowship in Neuromuscular Disease and Electromyography at the Medical College of Virginia, and a fellowship in Neuro-oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Cornell University Medical Center.

Dr. Slatkin is the past medical director of the National Parkinson’s Foundation Clinical Center of Excellence, and the American Parkinson’s Disease Association Information and Referral Center and Parkinson’s Clinic at City of Hope.

Dr. Slatkin serves as principal Investigator for several clinical drug studies exploring new treatment options for cancer pain and diabetic neuropathy. Dr. Slatkin serves as director of the annual Rhoda G. and Bernard G. Sarnat Symposium for Supportive Care of the Patient with Cancer and Other Life-threatening Diseases. Previously, Dr. Slatkin was the founding chair of City of Hope’s Institutional Bioethics Committee, and served as an expert reviewer for the Medical Board of California.

Dr. Slatkin has delivered presentations at national medical conferences, and authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. The Southern California Cancer Pain Initiative presented him with the Award of Excellence in October 1999.
