Mark Esensten, M.D., has been a diagnostic radiologist with City of Hope for more than 20 years. He is one of City of Hope’s leading experts in the use of computed tomography, ultrasound and mammography technologies for the detection and diagnosis of cancers of the breast, lung and prostate.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Esensten has also been instrumental in the creation of several important City of Hope programs and services. He helped to develop the Prostate Ultrasound and Prostate Screening programs within the Division of Urology, the Penile Doppler Program with the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism, and helped to establish Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanning services within the Division of Nuclear Medicine. He also served as president of the City of Hope Medical Staff from 1995 to 1997.
Dr. Esensten received his medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at the Los Angeles County – University of Southern California Medical Center, as well as completing a fellowship in Computerized Tomography and Ultrasound. Prior to joining City of Hope in 1982, Dr. Esensten served as a general medical officer with the United States Public Health Service, where he received a Public Health Service Award.
