Jonathan Espenschied, M.D., Director of Clinical Research Training and the Clinical investigation Training Program, has made major contributions to cancer research in the clinic as well as in the laboratory. As a previous research fellow at COH, he collaborated with Joshua Ellenhorn, MD, and Don J. Diamond, Ph.D. and is credited with the pre-clinical development and testing of a recombinant cancer vaccine targeting the p53 protein.
Spearheading the education technology efforts here on campus, Dr. Espenschied provides a multidisciplinary approach to education, technology, and clinical research. He also has experience in both pre-clinical studies and clinical trials in the US and abroad, and was founding director of Working Against Cancer, an organization dedicated to adolescent and young adult oncology. He has worked extensively with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the American Cancer Society to develop educational curriculum for cancer survivors and physicians. Dr. Espenschied was recruited back to City of Hope to develop the Clinical Investigation Training Program and now heads Clinical Research Training.
Dr. Espenschied is a member of several national organizations including the American Society for Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the American Association for Cancer Education.
