Disseminating End-of-Life Education to Cancer Centers (DELEtCC)
DELEtCC prepares cancer centers teams with the expertise to increase the quality of palliative and end-of-life care for cancer patients. The project is supported by a National Cancer Institute grant awarded to Marcia Grant, RN, DNSc, FAAN, principal investigator and Betty Ferrell, PhD, FAAN, co-investigator. Interdisciplinary 2-person teams from cancer centers throughout the United States attend one of four annual 3-day conferences. Participants are trained by internationally recognized end-of-life and palliative care experts. An 18 month follow-up period includes ongoing DELEtCC project support; chart audits; case analysis; institutional assessment; institutional survey; participant interviews; and administrative surveys.
Pain Resource Nurse Training Course
PRN prepares individual nurses or institutions to develop the role of the Pain Resource Nurse. The three-day comprehensive training course focuses on: Principles of Pain Management and Assessment, Acute Pain Management, Pharmacology Associated with Cancer Pain Management, Opioid Related Side Effect Management, Pain Assessment and Management in Children, Pain Management at the End-of-Life, The Role of Adjuvant Medications in Pain Management, Communication and Advocacy in Pain Management, Psychological Aspects and Management of Cancer Pain, Non-Pharmacologic Pain Management, Institutional Commitment to Pain Management, Educational Strategies for Special Populations, and Caring for the Caregiver.
