Kathe Kelly, RN, BSN, OCN is coordinator of the End of Life Nursing Consortium (ELNEC) Geriatric project in the Division of Nursing Research and Education and director of the Southern California Cancer Pain Initiative (SCCPI). The ELNEC project is a national and international nursing education initiative to improve end-of-life care. SCCPI is a non-profit volunteer organization of interdisciplinary pain management and healthcare professionals whose mission is “to promote optimum pain relief for all people with cancer.” Prior to becoming a nurse, Kathe worked in heart disease research for the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute and in the Preventive Cardiology Program at University of California, Irvine. She began her oncology nursing career at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. and has provided cancer patients care, education and support from initial diagnosis, through treatment and survival to end-of-life issues.
