Lily Lai, M.D., is a City of Hope expert in surgical treatments for breast and colorectal cancer. In addition to her clinical work treating patients, Dr. Lai also focuses on clinical trials to improve surgical techniques, and has led the development of cooperative group surgical trials at City of Hope.
Dr. Lai’s laboratory research focuses on the mechanisms involved in colon cancer development, and the role of bile acids in tumor development. Currently, she is engaged in a study investigating the ways that receptors in the cellular nucleus can contribute to tumor development.
Dr. Lai completed her education at Harvard University and at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine. She remained at UCSD for her surgical residency and trained in surgical oncology at City of Hope.
Dr. Lai is a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and is a principal investigator for the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group. She has authored numerous publications and book chapters, and delivered abstracts and presentations at medical conferences around the country.
