Biography

Dr. Maghami was recently recruited to lead the multidisciplinary Head and Neck Oncology Service at City of Hope. She received her medical degree and Alpha Omega Alpha honorary distinction at Washington University, St. Louis. Following completion of a highly competitive otolaryngology training program at University of California, Los Angeles, she became the top ranked recruit to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center where she spent nearly three years in advanced research and surgery fellowship training devoted to head and neck cancer. Dr. Maghami is a leading expert in all areas of head and neck surgical oncology.

Dr. Maghami has active involvement in head and neck cancer research. Her laboratory work has focused on RNAi based gene therapy applications in head and neck cancer. She developed recombinant retroviral vectors carrying RNAi against several important cancer causing genes for which she received the American Society of Clinical Oncology Award in 2004. She continues to research and develop this technology for head and neck cancer therapeutic applications at City of Hope. Additionally, Dr. Maghami is a co-investigator in several institutional clinical trials testing novel multimodality treatment regimens aimed at improving overall survival while preserving quality of life parameters crucial for an overall sense of well-being.

Dr. Maghami is a member of the American Board of Otolaryngology and specialty related societies including the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, American Head and Neck Society, American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Association for Cancer Research. She is an editorial review panelist for the medical journals Head and Neck, Laryngoscope, and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. She is well-published in medical literature and has made numerous presentations at professional conferences nationwide. Dr. Maghami also represents City of Hope at the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Committee for Head and Neck Cancer where she is one of a small group of leading physicians from across the United States who develop guidelines for the treatment of Head and Neck Cancer.
