Psychosis is a severe mental disorder in which there is exteme impairment of ability to think clearly, respond with appropriate emotion, communicate effectively, understand reality and behave appropriately. Behaviral problem associated with psychosis negatively affect patients and caregivers. these disturbances lead to increased costs, caregiver burden, and a poorer prognosis.

Upon successful of this activity the learner should be better able to:

• Recognize psychological changes and behavioral disturbances associated with acute psychosis
• Implement nonpharmacological modalities to reduce negative behaviors
• Identify and employ pharmacological interventions to manage the patient with acute psychosis
• Communicate with patient and their family as to treatment plan and management of their individual case 

This activity has been designed to meet the needs of physicians, nurses and other allied health care providers.

City of Hope is accredited by the  Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Physician’s Assistants: The National Commission on certification of Physicians Assistants states that AMA accredited Category 1 courses are acceptable fro CME requirements for recertification.
