Innovations in both traditional chemistry and molecular genetics, combined with faster Food and Drug Administration approvals, have created a stronger and vastly-expanded clinical armamentarium for a multitude of diseases. Continuing Pharmacy Education seminars and events offered by City of Hope are designed to help pharmacists and nurses become intimately familiar with new treatment modalities and a rapidly-changing standard of care.
One such event is the Rational Therapeutics Seminar in General Medicine. This advanced seminar is designed to provide members of the health care team with current and clinically relevant information. Emphasis will be on developments affecting medical practice, newer treatment modalities and other topics pertaining to general medicine. Among the interesting topics discussed are hematopoietic cell transplants, new treatment perspectives for ovarian cancer and chronic myelogenous leukemia, or CML, and the new human papillomavirus, or HPV, vaccine as prophylaxis for cervical cancer.
