The 2008 San Diego Construction Industries Alliance Spirit of Life Gala was held on Saturday June 21, 2008. Over 200 guests attended a black tie dinner aboard the USS Midway to honor Kent Aden & Captain Jim DiMatteo. Highlights of the evening included a special award presentation to Kent Aden by his mentor, David Kuhn. Kuhn, a prominent name in the construction industry, has known Aden for over 30 years and is currently undergoing treatment at City of Hope. Following this presentation by Kuhn, Aden and his family announced that their family trust would be bequesting $100,000 to City of Hope.
Another highlight of the evening was a touching and emotional presentation by City of Hope pediatric cancer survivor Marshall Cotta and his three brothers -- Jared, Brendan and Landis. All three brothers shared their gratitude for City of Hope saving their brother’s life, with Marshall rounding out the presentation by exclaiming that his doctor at City of Hope,
Michael Jensen M.D., “is the best doctor in the whole world!”
The event raised over $200,000 for pediatric cancer treatment and research and City of Hope.
