Here are two maps to help you find your way:

The road map shows directions from SoCal cities and the local area in Palm Springs.
The topo map is a topographic map of the Palm Springs area with directions to the hike.

Click on a map above to view it in your browser and/or print. To save the maps, right click and select "Save target as..." and save the file to your hard drive for later viewing or printing.

These maps are .PNG format and will open in any browser, MS Word, Paint shop Pro, Photoshop or ACDsee.

Print Setup: Landscape with margins set at .5 inches.

 Hike Information

All hikes meet at INDIAN CANYONS ENTRANCE (Please car pool. Parking is limited.).
Please allow at least 15 minutes for registration on event day.

EASY HIKES

#210 PALM CANYON WALKABOUT
1.5 mile round trip (100 ft. elevation gain)
Delightful walk along streams, past towering palms and jungle-like growth.

Departure time 8:30 a.m.
Hiking time: 1.5 hrs.
Recommend 1 quart water

#211 ANDREAS CANYON
2 mile round trip (Mild 50 ft. elevation gain)
Hike along quiet stream and rock ledges where centuries ago Cahuilla women ground beans, oats and acorns.

Departure time 8:30 a.m.
Hiking time: 1.5 hrs.
Recommend 1-2 quart water


MODERATE HIKES


#212 MURRAY CANYON

4 mile round trip (600 ft. elevation gain)
Enjoy a running stream, cottonwood trees and fan palms with quite a few water crossings over rocks.

Departure time 7:30 a.m.
Hiking time: 2.5 hrs.
Recommend 2-3 quarts water

#213 VICTOR TRAIL
2.5 mile round trip (600 ft elevation gain)
A very scenic trail with moderate climbs overlooking world famous Palm Canyon.

Departure time 8:00 a.m.
Hiking time: 2 hrs.
Recommend 2-3 quarts water


MODERATELY STRENUOUS HIKES


#214 PALM CANYON TO THE STONE POOLS
5.7 mile round trip (1,200 ft gain)
Hike past rippling streams under drowsing palms into the backcountry, bringing you to a series of sparkling pools (depending on rainfall).

Departure time 7:00-7:30 a.m.
Hiking time: 3.5-4 hrs.
Recommend 2-3 quarts water
 
#215 FERN CANYON
3.3 mile round trip (600 feet elevation gain)
Steady uphill rocky trail worth the effort to discover a lush palm oasis in a beautiful canyon abundant with ferns.

Departure time 7:30 a.m.
Hiking time: 2.5 hrs.
Recommend 2-2.5 quarts water

#216 VANDEVENTER TRAIL TO FERN CANYON
5.9 mile round trip (1,700 ft. elevation gain)
View the San Jacinto mountain range on west side of valley and hidden oasis of Fern Canyon.

Departure time 7:00 a.m.
Hiking time: 4 hrs.
Recommend 2-2.5 quarts water


STRENUOUS HIKES


Recommended for Experienced Hikers Only - Very Strenuous

#217 CRAZY EIGHT LOOP
8 mile loop connects 4 different trails. 1,200 ft. elevation gain Palm Canyon trail, East Fork, Victor Trail and back to Trading Post. For those with stamina who want to “see it all.”

Departure time 7:00 a.m.
Hiking time: 5.5 hrs.
Recommend 3-4 quarts water
 
#218 WEST FORK TO ANDREAS CANYON
10 mile round trip (2,500 ft.gain)
Same as #219 but continuing on to Andreas Canyon for the very fit hiker.

Departure time 6:45 a.m.
Hiking time: 6.5-7 hrs.
Recommend 4 quarts water

#219 WEST FORK TO DOS PALMAS SPRING
5 mile round trip (1,700 ft.gain)
Scenic hike above Palm Canyon with panoramic views of lower Palm Canyon Watershed.

Departure time 7:30 a.m.
Hiking time:  4 hrs.
Recommend at least 2 quarts water

NOTE: The Average pace for hikes is 1.5 miles per hour.

 Hiking Safety Tips and Etiquette

1. Evaluate your hiking skills carefully before selecting your hike of choice.

2. Wear hiking boots if at all possible - tennis shoes are not recommended.

3. Water – at least 2 to 3 quarts suggested for moderate to strenuous hikes.

4. Hat and sunscreen strongly recommended due to desert heat.

5. Proper apparel based on weather conditions (e.g. raingear, windbreaker).

6. First aid kit with Band-aids, moleskin, antibiotic ointment.

7. Eat breakfast/pack a trail snack.

8. Bring a camera.

9. Groups traveling uphill have right of way. “Take only photographs and leave only footprints”.
