2012 Spirit of Life® Award Dinner
Hundreds of insurance industry colleagues held an evening of fun and philanthropy to celebrate Tony Anderson, retired vice chair and Midwest managing partner of Ernst & Young, City of Hope’s Spirit of Life® Award honoree.
 
The celebration took place at the classic Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. All sectors of the insurance industry united for one great cause — City of Hope’s lifesaving mission.
 
This spectacular Motown-themed evening featured a live concert by the music group The Detroit 5, showcasing tunes from The Temptations, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Smokey Robinson and many more.

2012 Spirit of Life honoree Anthony (“Tony”) Anderson is the retired vice chair and Midwest managing partner of Ernst & Young LLP, a global leader in professional services with worldwide annual revenues of nearly $23 billion. While based in Chicago, Tony managed a practice of over 4,000 assurance, tax, advisory and transaction professionals serving clients across a 12-state region. He was also a member of Ernst & Young’s governing body, the Americas Executive Board. During his 35-year career, Tony also served as Ernst & Young’s Pacific Southwest managing partner from 2000 until 2006 and was based in Los Angeles. His extensive background includes leading the firm’s Pacific Southwest insurance practice from 1996 to 2000. Tony’s Ernst & Young career began in 1977 as an audit staff in Chicago and he was admitted to the partnership in 1989.

 

Tony’s leadership qualities reach beyond his professional career, encompassing past service on a wide variety of boards including the California Science Center, Town Hall of Los Angeles and Children’s Bureau of Southern California. He has served as a member of the corporate advisory board of the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business. In Chicago, Tony currently serves on the boards of the Lyric Opera, The Chicago Council on Global Affairs, World Business Chicago, The Field Museum and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He is chairman of the board of the Chicago Urban League. Tony is a member of the American, California and Illinois Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
