City of Hope believes that caring for patients means more than healing the body. It involves strengthening, nurturing and sustaining the spirit as well.
That philosophy is the cornerstone of City of Hope’s Positive Image CenterSM.
Here, patients of all ages learn to minimize the cosmetic side effects of illness or medical treatment with cost-free services and programs tailored to meet their needs.
In a welcoming and supportive environment, patients consult one-on-one with specially trained image consultants who provide guidance about skin care techniques, alternatives for hair loss and much more.

Our Services
A positive attitude is an important aspect of the healing process. Oftentimes, positive self-image is boosted by physical appearance.

How to Help
Most of the services offered at the Positive Image CenterSM - from one-on-one image consulting to ongoing support groups - are provided to patients at no cost.
You - and individuals like you - make the work we do possible.
The Positive Image Center relies on the support of volunteer staff. Volunteers work with patients and their families, helping them select merchandise or providing advice on makeup, skin care and hair care.
The Positive Image Center relies almost entirely on financial contributions from generous individuals and organizations. Your gift helps the men, women and children in our care look better and, as a result, feel better, too.
To learn more about volunteer opportunities or to make a financial contribution, contact Julie Jacuinde at 626-256-4673, ext. 63355.

What People Say
"Body image issues and peer relationships are critical in the adjustment of a child or adolescent to the cancer experience. Children are focused on being accepted by their peers and social groups. Consultation with Positive Image Center staff helps us to problem solve issues related to hair loss, and body changes. Our goal is to minimize negative self-image and enhance adjustment."
Randi McAllister, Ph.D., pediatric psychologist, City of Hope
