 Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses

City of Hope Daisy AwardCity of Hope is honored to participate in a special program that rewards the often unsung heroes of the medical profession - nurses.

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses recognizes the super-human work nurses do every day.  It was established by The DAISY Foundation – a foundation for the elimination of Diseases Attacking the Immune System – in memory of Patrick J. Barnes by his parents after they experienced firsthand the skills and compassionate caring of their son’s nurses.  The award is given monthly to outstanding nurses in over 50 hospitals across the country. City of Hope is proud to be among the recognized hospitals.

Monthly Awards
Every month, a nurse is selected by City of Hope’s DAISY Award Committee to receive the Award.  The honoree will get a beautiful African Shona Tribe sculpture entitled, “A Healer’s Touch,” an award pin, a bouquet of daisies and a certificate of appreciation.  On the same day, The DAISY Foundation delivers cinnamon rolls to all nurses in the unit to offer thanks for everything they do for patients and families.  Patrick was a huge fan of Cinnabon® cinnamon rolls.  When he was ill, he often asked his father to bring them to the nurses as his way of saying “thanks for all that you do.”
