Sean Kent is a funny guy, but he found no humor in the cruel cosmic joke played on him. In 2002, after several years of living hand to mouth as a struggling comedian in Hollywood, Sean got his first big break. He was hired as a writer for Fox Sports Net’s “Best Damn Sports Show Period.” Then, the unthinkable: the first week on the job, Sean was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Career elation was pummeled by angst, but Sean refused to let cancer stand in his way. Through three months of chemotherapy and radiation, Sean worked 50-plus hours a week writing for the show. Fortunately, treatment proved effective and the lymphoma was put into remission.
 
Shortly thereafter, Sean landed his next big break. He was chosen to be one of the contestants in the reality series “Last Comic Standing - Season One.” To Sean’s dismay, just after the series ended, the lymphoma returned. Now, the only hope for Sean was a bone marrow transplant (BMT).

Through a partnership with Kaiser Permanente, Sean was admitted to City of Hope where he underwent a tandem autologous transplant, which consisted of two planned autologous stem cell transplants within six months. “You know you’re at your low point,” says Sean, “when you’re lying in a hospital bed battling for your life, watching episodes of a reality show you’ve already been kicked off of.”
 
Today, Sean is enjoying his health and appreciates that he came away from his illness stronger and more fearless in pursuing his dreams. In August 2004, NBC invited him back to appear on “Last Comic Standing - Season Three.” Over the past year, he has been delivering his edgy, politically charged stand-up routine as a headliner in comedy clubs across the country and has released his first comedy recording, “Sex, Drugs, and Politics,” to rave reviews.

While not someone to be at a loss for words, Sean quotes the wisdom of Winston Churchill, saying, “Never Give Up, Never Give Up, Never Give Up.” In defeating cancer and defeating rejection in the world of professional comedy, Sean is the comic still standing.
