About Pancreatic Cancer
The pancreas is a gland about 6 inches long that is shaped like a thin pear lying on its side. The wider end of the pancreas is called the head, the middle section is called the body, and the narrow end is called the tail. The pancreas lies behind the stomach and in front of the spine. 
Diagnosing Pancreatic Cancer
Pancreatic cancer is usually diagnosed with tests and procedures that produce pictures of the pancreas and the area around it.

Pancreatic cancer remains a therapeutic challenge, and there remains a pressing need for continued research with the goal of improving the outcome of this disease.

Pancreatic Cancer Risk Factors
Many factors can contribute to the risk of developing pancreatic cancer, including:

  • History of chronic pancreatitis
  • Cigarette smoking
  • Long-standing diabetes

Certain rare hereditary conditions can also be associated with pancreatic cancer, however the majority of pancreatic cancers are not hereditary.

Anyone with these symptoms should see a doctor so that the doctor can treat any problem as early as possible.
