 Speech and Language Pathology

Sometimes treatments for cancer or other diseases can cause temporary or permanent changes in speech or communication skills. Through retraining or the use of prosthetic devices, these effects can often be minimized or, in some instances, reversed.

City of Hope’s Speech and Language Pathology Program staff members are expert at restoring voice to patients who have undergone a variety of surgical and reconstructive procedures. Our pathologists work closely with maxillofacial experts when patients require dental and prosthetic interventions to enhance speech intelligibility. They also specialize in providing therapy for communication deficits resulting from neurological and other problems.
