The recent expansion of the Functional Genomics Core was made possible by a generous donation from the Irmas Foundation. This core comprises the following four services:
The expanded Functional Genomics Core facility provides a comprehensive and integrated approach to functional genomics research for City of Hope Cancer Center investigators. Data management and analysis for all core services are provided in close collaboration with bioinformaticians and biostatisticians in the Biomedical Informatics Core of the Cancer Center.
Gerd Pfeifer, Ph.D., the Lester M. and Irene C. Finkelstein Chair in Biology and Chair of the Department of Cancer Biology, is the overall Scientific Director of the Functional Genomics Core. The Co-directors for the core's component services are
Dr. Xiwei Wu (Microarray & Data Analysis), Dr. Claudia Kowolik (RNAi), and
Dr. Garry Larson (Genetic Markers).
The Co-directors provide advice on experimental design prior to laboratory and clinical studies, assay development and quality control during the studies, and interpretation of data generated by the Functional Genomics Core. This "one-stop shopping" approach makes functional genomics research more accessible to project investigators.
