The recent expansion of the Functional Genomics/Genomic Sequencing Core was made possible by a generous donation from the Irmas Foundation. This core comprises the following two services:
The expanded Functional Genomics/Genomic Sequencing Core facility provides a comprehensive and integrated approach to functional genomics research for City of Hope Cancer Center investigators. Data management and analysis for all core services are provided in close collaboration with bioinformaticians and biostatisticians in the Biomedical Informatics Core of the Cancer Center.
Charles Wang, M.D., M.P.H., overall scientific director of the Functional Genomics/Genomic Sequencing Core, oversees all two core facilities including Microarray Core, Genetic Marker Core and RNAi Core. Wang also coordinates microarray and genomic data analysis, supported by the Biomedical Informatics Core (Director, Yate-Ching Yuan, Ph.D.).
Each core director will provide advice on: Experimental design prior to laboratory and clinical studies, assay development and quality control during the studies, and interpretation of data generated by the Functional Genomics/Genomic Sequencing Core. This "one-stop shopping" approach makes functional genomics research more accessible to project investigators.
