The Genetic Markers Service employs high-throughput technology to serve City of Hope investigators’ genetic research needs, providing access to sophisticated equipment and broad-based expertise in the field.
Our instrumentation is highly automated to facilitate quick, accurate and inexpensive data procurement for these services:
SNP Genotyping
Capacity for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping can run from small-scale analysis to larger projects with a few hundred SNPs. We provide options for investigators that take into account both the number of patient samples to be genotyped and the number of desired SNPs to be analyzed. All SNP genotyping projects will employ the Sequenom MassARRAY iPLEX Gold system.
Quantitative DNA Methylation Analysis
The MassARRAY system is ideal for the discrimination between methylated and non-methylated samples (CpG). MassARRAY EpiTYPER precisely measures DNA methylation using bisulfite treatment, MassCLEAVE chemistry and MALDI-Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry.
Quantitative Gene Expression
The MassARRAY QGE precisely measures gene expression levels from a wide variety of samples using real competitive PCR and MALDI-TOF MS. It is the ideal solution for post-array validation and multiplexed application.
STR Genotyping
Several short tandem repeat/microsatellite (STR) genotyping options are available. You can request a full genome screen with a set of markers spaced more or less equally along all the chromosomes in the genome. Options include the ABI PRISM® 5 or 10cM mapping panels or the Marshfield mapping panels. Alternatively, you can submit your own markers for the core to run. For information on selecting and locating markers, visit the Marshfield Medical Research Foundation Web site. All genotype data generated at the core undergoes a rigorous quality control process. The data are released to the researcher in a standardized file format.
