Overview

Islet Transplantation at the SC-IC
The Southern California Islet Consortium is conducting clinical trials to study the safety and effectiveness of islet transplantation as a treatment for type 1 diabetes.

The SC-IC performed its first islet transplantation in April 2004, under its first clinical trial (Islet Transplantation Alone).  As of May 2011, 44 islet transplantations have been performed in 20 patients with type 1 diabetes under the Islet Transplantation Alone and Islet After Kidney Transplantation trials.
