Ajaz M. Khan, M.D., M.B.A., C.P.E., joined City of Hope® Cancer Center Chicago, located in Lake County, Illinois, in March 2022. In his leadership role as Chief of Medical Oncology, Dr. Khan is responsible for guiding protocols, ensuring standard-of-care guidelines are consistently met and exceeded, and helping recruit high-quality physicians. In 2025, he was elected as the President of the Chicago Medical Staff. As a medical oncologist, Dr. Khan primarily focuses on evaluating and treating patients with breast and lung cancers.
After earning his medical degree with honors from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, Dr. Khan completed his residency in internal medicine at Drexel University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He went on to complete a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey, where he became Chief Fellow, American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Merit Award Recipient and MORE Foundation Scholar. Dr. Khan received his M.B.A. from George Washington University School of Business in Washington, D.C., with top honors.
Before coming to City of Hope, Dr. Khan amassed significant medical leadership experience, most recently as the Chief of Hematology and Medical Oncology at St. Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates (SPHPMA) in Albany and Troy, New York. He also served on SPHPMA executive boards, chaired their Transfusion and Cancer committees and led their Breast Cancer Program Leadership Committee.
Additionally, he previously served as Medical Staff President and Medical Director of Oncology Services at the Patricia D. Pepe Center for Cancer Care at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois.
